I’m Rodrigo Sicarelli, a Staff Software Engineer on Stone’s Mobile Platform and one of Brazil’s leading voices in Kotlin Multiplatform — Google KMP Acceleration Program (one of five projects worldwide), KotlinConf 2025 speaker. My job, in one line: I build the platforms that multiply other engineers.

The story starts in São Paulo in 2011, building ERP software as an intern and learning Android by pairing with senior devs at a small taxi startup. From there I worked my way up through Brazil’s mobile scene — Walmart, ZAP Imóveis, Easy Taxi, Elo7 — shipping apps through the years when Android went from afterthought to front door. At 99, Brazil’s ride-hailing giant, I led the Passenger app’s Android team and then became the technical bridge for the mobile integrations with Didi Chuxing after the acquisition — my first taste of engineering across organizations, languages and time zones.

That taste turned into seven years of international work. In Amsterdam at Chama I swung between tech lead and engineering manager, treating logistics as a systems problem — we cut average delivery time from 40 to 10 minutes. In Valencia at Creditas I led cross-country teams and delivered the org’s Server-Driven UI engine, so product teams could ship without app releases. Back in Amsterdam (remotely) at Polaroid, I rewrote the Bluetooth layer that took the flagship app’s rating from 3.5 to 4.6 and built a hardware platform adopted across four products. The pendulum between managing teams and deep technical work was deliberate: each side taught me what the other couldn’t.

In late 2023 I came back to Brazil, to Stone, to solve a problem no one had cracked at that scale: a cross-platform migration architecture for a large fintech. I delivered it in four months; it was adopted org-wide and took code sharing from 0% to 80%. The scope grew from there — selective CI that cut costs by 87%, app cold start from 50s to 15s, an observability platform with 52 metrics, architecture governance through RFCs, and an agentic coding platform (Claude Code, MCP) used by engineers and PMs alike. Today I operate as Cross-Staff across the three platform squads, because I believe the highest-leverage code is the code that makes everyone else faster.

    Joined to stabilize the flagship app — store rating was 3.5 and Bluetooth connections were unreliable.

    • Rewrote the entire Bluetooth Low Energy layer — rating went from 3.5 to 4.6 and stayed there for years

    • Cut the average delivery time from 40 to 10 minutes — efficiency that translated into more orders per hour without adding resources
